Availability: NFS

In the summer of 2014 I served as Assistant Artist on The Mural Arts Program’s Journey2Home construction: a vibrant collection of murals and interactive installations focused on bringing more awareness to marginalized groups in Philadelphia, including youth faced with housing insecurity, incarcerated adults, and women recovering from domestic violence.

Managed by Shari Hersh and Julius Ferraro, Journey2Home positions local artists as social advocates and catalysts for positive change. Lead Artists Shira Walinsky and Ernel Martinez collaborated to design the two murals and an interactive mobile house made from a large shipping container. Every 2nd Friday of the month the doors of the shipping container were open to the public to serve as a safe haven and gathering space where service providers could offer resources for those in need of legal services, council, or assistance finding shelter, job, and food.

Custom Tab

block identifier: ft001_custom_tab is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

ARTIST STATEMENT

There is so much to see and learn about, and for that my passions are extremely charged and my artworks are the by-product of my consciousness. Similar to a public diary entry, each installation reveals pieces of an evolving story. For me, art is a catharsis.
